GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Games will take place rain or shine.
  • Entry Fees are $30 per person per event entered (including alternates). This fee is separate from Sponsorships.
  • All participants including alternates must sign a Waiver Form before he/she is allowed to participate in any event.
  • Participants should check-in with the lead volunteer of his/her events prior to the start time.

 

HERMAN MILLER AERON HOCKEY EVENT
8:00 AM, Held on outside Basketball Courts behind Bender Arena

Three person team must be comprised of two men and one woman (on court at all times) and one designated alternate.  ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.

The event is a 3-on-3 hockey game played while "seated" in task chairs.

Rules for Herman Miller Aeron Hockey Event

  • NO “hitching” – grabbing another’s chair and hang on for purpose of being pulled across court (with hands and/or stick)
  • NO “tipping” – when player purposely neglectfully acts in such a way as to cause tippage or near tippage of another player
  • NO “whip and spin” – when player grabs an occupied and whips it around at high speed until the victim, when finally released, is too dizzy and nauseated to stay in the game
  • NO “gross separation” – any player standing upright, sliding off the seat, or in any way vacating the chair during a game commits gross separation (only the Goalie is permitted to stand to block shot)
  • NO sticks allowed to be raised above the seat pan of chairs (will be warned and then thrown out OR team eliminated)
  • NO hitting opponents with sticks and/or chairs (will be warned and then thrown out OR team eliminated)
  • FEMALE MUST play at ALL times
  • Teams NOT ready to play within two minutes of being announced, will be Forfeited.  It is recommended that the Team Captain rally players in advance.

It is recommended that players wear shin pads/guards or wear pants for leg protection.


WRESTLING TOURNAMENT—Heavyweight & Lightweight Divisions
8:00 AM, Held in the Wrestling Room in the Fitness Center in Bender Arena

Participants will be placed in an 8-man bracket and compete in three (3) one minute periods in takedown tournament format.  The best of three takedowns will determine the First Place winner; second and third place finishers are determined in the same manner.  Madison weights - participants will be paired with the closest eight competitors by weight for a total of six weight classes.

All participants must provide all of their own equipment (e.g., shoes, headgear.) JDRF/American University will not provide equipment.

Participants deemed unfit to compete by the Event Official(s) and participants lacking the proper safety equipment WILL NOT be allowed to participate in the event. No exceptions and no refunds on participation fees.

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
WEIGHT LIFTING CHALLENGE--
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM, Held in the Weight Room in the Fitness Center in Bender Arena

Each participant gets one chance to lift their body weight as many times as possible, the top three lifts will place.  Participants must load their weights on the bar.

RULES:

  • No bouncing of the weights off the chest.
  • A lift consists of bringing the bar down to the chest and pressed back up with full arm extension.
  • If the participant stops halfway on the last press and the spotters have to help, the lift will not count.

 

TENNIS CLASSIC
Times: Singles begins at 8:00 AM
            Doubles begins at 12:30 PM
Held on outdoor Tennis Courts behind Bender Arena

Men may compete in singles and mixed doubles or doubles and mixed doubles, but NOT in singles and doubles; women may compete in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.  Participants will need to provide their own racket. Due to time restrictions, men’s singles will be limited to 35 participants this year.

RULES:

  • Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles and Mixed Doubles Tennis are single elimination events.
  • Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles are either round robin or single elimination events, to be determined the day of the Games based on the number of participants.
  • There will be one 7-game set with “no-ad” scoring.  
  • There will be a playoff for third place.
  • Teams will be seeded into brackets; byes may be used to successfully complete the bracketing.
  • If a participant does not appear within 10 minutes of the determined start-time of his match, he or she can be disqualified.

THREE POINT BASKETBALL SHOOTING CONTEST
8:00 AM, Held on basketball courts inside Bender Arena

Separate men’s and women’s competitions for first, second and third place.  Men’s competition will be capped at 90 participants.

Participants may want to bring their own basketball for practice.

Each participant will shoot (15) balls within 45 seconds; 5 shots from the 2 corner baselines and 5 shots from the top of the key. The person who sinks the most baskets within the allotted time period determines the first place winner. Second and third place finishers are determined in the same manner.

 

THREE-ON-THREE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 
8:30 AM, Held on basketball courts inside Bender Arena

Separate men’s and women’s tournaments; a team comprised of a maximum of 4 players - 3 players and 1 alternate.  ONE TEAM PER COMPANY .  The Men’s Tournament will be limited to an overall maximum of 30 teams.

Liberal substitution is allowed among the four players. Participants may want to bring their own basketball for practice.

Tournament is a double elimination event consisting of three-on-three, half-court games. Each game is to eleven (11) points straight. There is a second bracket to be filled by first-time losers. Teams are disqualified after suffering two defeats. Players officiate their own games and all fouls will be possession fouls.  The teams are seeded brackets; byes may be used to successfully complete the bracketing.  There will be a consolation game to determine the third place winner.

FOUR-ON-FOUR SAND VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT 
9:00 AM, Held on sand volleyball courts outside of Bender Arena

Team is comprised of maximum of 4 players (and 2 alternates); minimum of 1 women player required. ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.  Overall maximum of 52 teams. Participants may want to bring their own volleyball for practice.

Volleyball is a single elimination event. All preliminary round games will be played to fifteen (15) points throughout the tournament. Each game must be won by at least two (2) points. The final round games will be played to fifteen (15) points; winning team must win by at least (2) points. Teams are seeded brackets; byes may be used to successfully complete the bracketing.

SPIN COMPETITION
10:00 AM, Upper Mezzanine of Bender Arena

Five person team must have at least one woman.  ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.  Each rider may only rider ONCE.

Each team, made up of five people, must “spin” for 30 minutes in a stationary “race” to see who can rack up the most mileage. Each team member has only 6 minutes to spin as hard and as fast as they can with the team that spins the furthest declared the winner.

TRACK EVENTS--Held on Track

9:00 AM - 5K Run including Over 40 and Over 50 events
Men and women run together; points awarded separately for first, second and third place finishers for men and women and Over 40 and Over 50 finishers.

9:30-10:10 AM - 100 Meter Dash/Over 40/Over 50
Separate men’s and women’s events; possibly with heats.

10:20-10:40 AM - One Mile Run including Over 40 and Over 50 events
Men and women run together; points awarded separately for first, second and third place finishers for men and women and Over 40 and Over 50 finishers.

10:45 AM-11:10 AM - Men’s & Women’s 4x100 Meter Relay
Team must be comprised of four men and four women, respectively. ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.  Each runner must cross the baseline before handing off baton.

11:15 AM - 4x100 Meter Mixed Relay
Team must be comprised of two men and two women. ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.  Each runner must cross the baseline before handing off baton.

FOOSBALL
10:00 AM Event will be in two sessions (10AM and 12:15PM);
Held in Kettler-Palmer Lounge (2nd Floor) in Bender Arena

Two-player team event - maximum of two (2) teams per company. Overall maximum of 48 teams.

Participants must arrive 10 minutes before your start time; games will begin on time or will be forfeited
Session 1 begins at 10:00 a.m.; Session 2 begins at 12:15 p.m. and the Championship begins at 2:45 p.m.  Check in with Foosball lead volunteer the day of the Games to find out your team’s start time.
Foosball is a single elimination tournament with the best of 3 games winning. Games will be played to 10 points or 10 minutes games (whichever comes first.) If the game is tied after 10 minutes, game goes into sudden death and next goal wins.

  • Arrive 10 minutes before your start time
  • Games will begin on time or will be forfeited
  • No spinning
  • No spin drop ins

 

TABLE TENNIS 
10:00 AM, Held in Kettler-Palmer Lounge (2nd Floor) in Bender Arena

Individual, coed event - maximum of seven (7) participants per company.

Table Tennis is a single elimination event. All preliminary round games will be played to five (5) points, unless both players score four (4) points, when the game shall be won by the first player subsequently gaining a lead of two (2) points. The Semifinal and Final round games will be the best two out of three games played to 11 points.

 

 

PUNT, PASS & KICK CONTEST
12:00 PM-2:00 PM, Upper Field

Separate men’s and women’s competition for first, second, and third place

The distance will be measured along the “Distance Line” from the “Starting Line” to the resting place of the punt, pass or kick.  Accuracy will be determined by measuring the distance from the “Distance Line” to the resting place of the respective punt, pass or kick.  This measured distance will then be subtracted from the distance of the punt, pass or kick to determine a “Net Score.”

Rules for Punt, Pass & Kick Contest

  • Each contestant shall have an opportunity to try one punt, one pass and one kick plus one additional try to better the least successful attempt, for a total of four attempts. For scoring purposes, only the best punt, pass and kick will be counted toward first, second and third place points.
  • Points will be awarded for first, second, and third place finishers in the men’s and women’s event determined by individuals with the highest overall “Net Score” from the best punt, pass and kick.
  • In the event of a tie, each contestant will be given one additional punt, pass and kick.

FAST BALL CHALLENGE
12:00 PM-2:00 PM, Upper Field

Separate men’s and women’s competitions for first, second, and third place.

A radar gun determines speed of pitch. The three (3) fastest pitches of all entries will determine first, second and third place finishers.

 

LACROSSE CHALLENGE
12:00 PM-2:00 PM, Upper Field

Separate men’s and women’s competitions for first, second, and third place.

A radar gun determines speed of shot. The three (3) fastest shots of all entries will determine first, second and third place finishers.

 

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
12:00 PM, Held inside Bender Arena

Team is comprised of maximum of 7 players that includes 1 alternate; minimum of 2 women required. ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.  Overall maximum of 52 teams. Participants may want to bring their own volleyball for practice.

MAIN EVENT

One executive per company competes.

Each participant performs a combination of wacky and fun activities. The participant with the fastest time to complete all tasks wins the event. The three (3) fastest times of all entries will determine first, second and third place finishers.

 

THREE-LEGGED RACE
1:20 PM, Held inside Bender Arena

Two person team must be comprised of one man and one woman.  ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.

A fun event where each team ties a band around their ankles and races two lengths of the basketball court. The three (3) fastest times of all entries will determine first, second and third place finishers.

CELEBRITY EVENT
1:40 PM, Held inside Bender Arena

Four person team must be comprised of two men and two women.  ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.

A fun relay type event captained by local sports and media celebrities. The three (3) fastest times of all entries will determine first, second and third place finishers.

 

BIG BALL RELAY
2:00 PM, Held inside Bender Arena

Two person team must be comprised of one man and one woman.  ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.

Team members “run” two lengths of the basketball court with a large beach ball between them. The three (3) fastest times of all entries will determine first, second and third place finishers.

 

OBSTACLE COURSE RELAY
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Held on Upper Field

Four person team must be comprised of two men and two women. ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.

This is a four-person relay race whereby each participant completes an obstacle course one time, tags a team member and the remaining team members each follow suit. The three (3) fastest times of all entries will determine first, second and third place finishers.

 

GOLF CHALLENGE
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Held on Reeves Field (Center of Track)
Separate men’s and women’s competitions for first, second and third place.

Participants are asked to bring their own clubs, although clubs are provided. The distance will be between 30 and 80 yards. The ball that stops closest to the pin determines the winner. If there is a tie, we will hold a second single shot playoff, with the closest shot winning the event.

 

ALLSTEEL CHAIR RELAY
1:00 PM, Held on Track

Four person team must be comprised of two men and two women.  ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.

A fun, relay type event. First team member sits on Allsteel chair and pushes chair with his/her feet to reach next team member, who follows suit. The three (3) fastest times of all entries will determine first, second and third place finishers.

TUG OF WAR
3:30 PM, Held inside Bender Arena

Six person team must be comprised of at least two women. No alternatives allowed.  ONE TEAM PER COMPANY.

The team that pulls the ribbon or other attached marker over the designated centerline is the winner.
This is a double elimination event. No spikes or cleats of any kind will be allowed. Gloves are permitted. The “anchor man” on each team may wrap the rope around his/her waist, but may NOT tie the rope in a knot and form a complete loop. There will be a consolation tug to determine the third place winner. No substitutions are allowed once the event starts.
